Only a few years ago, most IT managers didn’t have to think about security; now they are expected to be experts. The advent of broadband and the Internet turned little islands of connectivity into a vast continent and one of the main growing pains has been security.
Firewalls were developed to protect us from each other and then VPNs to reconnect us. We need intrusion protection so that we can do business and then content filtering to ensure we only do business with appropriate websites.
We need anti-virus and anti-spam and anti-phishing and anti-hoax and so the list goes on and it will go on while there are systems to access illegally and reasons to do so.
